Every donation to the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop helps your community. All net proceeds are used to assist residents in Washtenaw County supporting emergency social service needs. Donations may be tax deductible, and a receipt will be provided to all donors who request one.
How to Donate
Donations are accepted during Shop hours (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 10 am – 4 pm and Saturday, 10 am to 1 pm.) Follow the signs to our drive-up Donation Door located under the striped awning at the rear of the Shop.
We gratefully accept:
- Clothing & footwear – men’s, women’s and children’s in new and gently used condition, clean and in good repair
- Accessories – purses, scarves, hats, gloves, belts, etc.
- Jewelry and watches
- Antiques and collectibles
- Home decor – decorative home accessories, framed art and mirrors, baskets, lamps, seasonal decorations, small accent tables or chairs
- Housewares – kitchen equipment, cookware, tableware, utensils, glassware, etc. in clean and good condition
- Small appliances – clean and in full working order
- Books (see exclusions below)
- Magazines (no older than 1 year)
- DVDs, CDs – commercially recorded only, LPs and 45s
- Sports – small equipment and clothing
We cannot accept the following items due to space limitations or liability issues:
- Dirty, excessively worn, damaged stained or mildewed items
- Furniture
- Children’s toys, puzzles, or games
- Infant/child car seats, strollers, cribs or highchairs
- Bed pillows, mattresses, mattress pads, or electric blankets
- Medical supplies, equipment, or medications
- Phones
- TV’s, computers, monitors, printers, word processors
- Stereo equipment (except small portable styles) or electronics
- VHS and cassette tapes
- Encyclopedias, Readers Digest Condensed Books, or textbooks
- Bicycles, helmets, large sporting or exercise equipment
- Building materials, hard-wired light fixtures, curtain rods or window shades
- Food items or opened toiletries

Monetary gifts to support the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop are gratefully accepted. Gifts may be made in honor or memory of an individual or group, or you may make a general donation.

Please make checks payable to: Thrift Shop Association of Ann Arbor. If applicable, include the name(s) of those being honored or memorialized and the fund choice (current operations of the Shop, including social service needs, or the Reserve Fund which supports Community Impact Grants and other expenditures at the direction of our Board) in the memo line.
