About Us
We are a non-profit 501c3 organization with an all-female, 100% volunteer staff, operating continuously since 1932. We provide emergency social service assistance through the sale of donated gently used clothing, housewares and other items.
Our 300-plus members accept, sort, price and sell thousands of donated goods in our retail shop each month. In the past five years, your donations and purchases have allowed the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop to provide over $1,900,000 in short term support to individuals and families in Washtenaw County.
Who We Help
Individuals receive help through our Emergency Assistance Grants which provide short-term aid for housing, utilities, transportation, health care, and other needs.
Social Service Agencies apply for grants to distribute emergency assistance to those in need, as well as annual program and capacity-building grants. For more information about grants and outreach, click HERE.
Shoppers benefit by visiting a shop filled with unique, high-quality merchandise at great prices. Shoppers have the satisfaction of knowing their purchases at the Shop will help others in our community. Shoppers also contribute to a more sustainable community by extending the life of reusable merchandise and preserving the resources that go into making new goods.
Donors have access to a community resource to donate and recycle quality items while helping others. Donating instead of discarding benefits the entire community by reducing landfill waste, utilizing fewer resources, and reducing overall environmental footprints.
